Ohh....She Takes Care of Herself...

The other day in the car, I heard
an old tune by this guy...

She's Always A Woman, by none other than Billy Joel.
I loved his music when I was young. This one
came out in 1977, when I was a mere 18.

One line in the song REALLY grabbed me...

Ohhh she takes care of herself....

It kind of stopped me dead in my tracks!

God used this one line from this one song
to impress on my heart that I haven't
been taking very good care of me!!

As a wife, mother, nana, home school teacher, and
business owner, somehow my time gets
all used up rather quickly.

The one thing I have guarded with my life
is my quiet time with God.  I'm sure that is
why I have managed as well as I have until now!!

I'm sharing this because I think this is
probably a very wide spread issue with women, and
we are not only doing ourselves a disservice,
but when we don't look after our spiritual, physical,
and emotional needs, everyone around us is eventually

Now, I'm not talking about justifying over indulging
ourselves with expensive stuff or anything like that.

I am talking about really caring for ourselves so
we can be better prepared for each day!

For me that looks something like this...

Spending time each morning drinking in God's
Word, praising Him, and praying

Making wise food choices...
choosing natural whole foods
and eliminating most sugar,
and food additives.

Being a better steward of my body...MAKING the
time to exercise, so I can enjoy being a wife, mom, nana,
home school teacher, business owner, and anything else
God has planned for me as long as possible!!

Once again, MAKING the time for some rest and relaxation,
and MAKING time to spend with friends!

I went shopping and to lunch with my dear friend, Nellie,
yesterday and had such a blast!

Nellie lives about 7 miles from me, but I hadn't spent
any time with her in what seems like forever!!  Why???

We have to make time...and guard it...
or it will never happen!!

Us girls need girl time!!  It's a FACT!!

And lastly...

Enjoying a favorite hobby

For me that is creating...
With all of the other demands on my time,
I haven't been taking time to create...
simply for the pure pleasure of creating,
and expressing myself through my creations.

And I must add to this the need to use the gifts
God has given us to bless others.
He wants to bring glory to Himself through
our gifts and talents, and not have us just
keep them to ourselves.

Faith is an action word!

Well, maybe you're doing better at
all of this than I am,

{and if you are that is fabulous, and I am thrilled for you}

and maybe you're right where I'm at.
Whatever the case, I know this,

Once we begin to get a little better grasp on this,
{it's all a process, you know?}
we will find that we will be more balanced in general,
and will be better able to
walk confidently through this life we've been
blessed with, and have a positive
impact on all those we come in contact with!

That's my goal!!

Love ya bunches!
Have a great day,
and a glorious weekend!!

Hi sweetie, I've wondered about you lately-whether you were getting any much needed time for Becky. Glad you had such a blast with Nellie-what fun, wish I could join you. And girl, you know we need those girlfriends.
Missing you my sweet friend and sending lots of love today.

I so hear you Becky! Girl time is definitely a must. I just need to put it into my days more often. I hope you are doing well. Glad to hear the new grandy is doing awesome. I have been busy with our new grandy this week and loving every minute of it.

Hi Becky....Wow what a fantastic post....definitely touched me. Are you in my head?

A very long time ago I saw a friend of a friend who I hadn't seen in a long time. When I asked how my friend was, she said "she's great....she really is taking care of herself". I'll never forget those words, and how I have been spiritually reminded....thanks!

This is such a great post!!! I know from my own experience that far too often I will take care of everyone but ME. I think that is the way of women. But, if we don't take of ourselves, how can we expect to have anything to give others.

By the way, Garrett and I went out to lunch yesterday, and when he's in the car, he likes to listen to the 70's station (when it's Gabrielle, it's the country station). Anyhow, that very song came on the radio, and I told Garrett that Billy Joel ALWAYS reminds me of my paternal grandma...she loved him!! I can picture her listening to and dancing around the house to The Stranger album...she was one very mod grandma. Listening to that music with her teenage granddaughter.

SO glad you and Nellie could enjoy some time together. She is such a precious lady. I SO enjoyed my time with her and Jim. Hope to live near enough that I can visit with her (and you!) often.

Love ya,

I am so glad you are going to making some me time. At different times in my life it was not possible. Right now I am living my dream and I have never been happier. Blogging, crafting, exercising, seeing friends. I believe my blogging is sharing my gifts. I just don't know how when people have small kids, maybe a job, how it can be done. At those times in my life I had to steal moments. Here's hoping you can steal a ton of moments.

I relate to this post and am trying very hard myself. I need to find a quiet space lately since my usual empty nest is temporarily full.

And I am sorry about the address. I did forget! I am so spastic lately. I need to see if I still have your email, though. Can you email me at with it?

Oh, Becky, I am so happy to hear from you. We have been in Maine for a month and my blogging has been sporadic. Mostly because my connection to the net is poor at best. I HAVE missed you too and was wondering when you were coming to NC. We will be home by July 1st. Sometimes change is a good thing. I will miss seeing you this summer. Our family has been trying to have a family reunion for a couple of years. It is a big project when our family is over 100 now. I'm talking immediate family. My parents sure started something big huh? They gave us love of family and it is a special bond that makes us all so blessed.

I love your post and the previous one as well. We do need to take care of ourselves and keep God close to us at all times. He is our only chance to keep our strength and love of life and family the focus of our life. Our friends are part of our lives and we tend to leave them out when we are BUSY. Follow your heart and goals my friend. Do take time for yourself. The years fly by believe me.

Congratulations on the arrival of Hannah. I have wondered many times about the baby and when she arrived and if all went well. The love we have for our grands is so special. As soon as we get home it will be grandkids week at grandma's house. They are all teens except one. Jacob will be 13 in Oct. These years have flown by. We will be blessed with laughter, love and total chaos. These cousins love each other dearly and never have a quarrel when they are together. Since none of them live near each other they are so happy to be together.

Well I guess this is about to be a short story.
Blessings and love to you dear Becky.
Love you bunches,
