From My Studio-And a Heavy Heart

Hello Friends

I am busy designing and creating Christmas pretties, and am really loving the whole process.

I finished making these last night, and will be back at it hard after I spend some time on schoolwork with our 17 yo daughter.

I love the elegant woodland look of them!

 These take about 15 steps to complete, along with time to let things dry.

I hope that when you see people's handmade
creations you see them with a heart that truly
appreciates all the time, creativity, and attention to detail that goes into each creation.

There is quite a process involved with
each of my original creations.

FIRST***
~I have an idea that just might work!
I may sketch it out, or just work off of what
is in my mind's eye.

SECOND***
~I set out to source just the right design elements needed to create it.  {hours, days, weeks!}

THIRD***
~I purchase all I need and often wait
til it is shipped

FOURTH***

~I work with the elements until I have one
made that I love.  {hours, days!}

 FIFTH***

~Then the easier, but still quite time
consuming process of assembling, with
lots of attention to detail,
{and a spoonful of lovin'}

SIXTH***
Taking good clear photos {usually 5-25}, editing the photos, creating the listing and putting them in my shop.

I buy handmade and vintage all the time from small shops,

And buy at least 65% of my supplies from other small business owners!

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Hobby Lobby and Home Goods but there is just something about supporting small businesses that gives me a deep sense of satisfaction,
simplicity and connection.

I saw this, and it sums up how I feel
about shopping handmade.

I am sure you, like me, are burdened with
a heavy heart about the tragedy in Paris.

I am praying for Paris, and all who have
been affected by this horrific act of terror.

We do need to realize that this can happen
at any time right here in our nation.

We need to be praying for the whole world
 that this scourge of terror will be stopped,
and that people's hearts will be open to and
receive the truth of God.

We also need to be becoming increasingly aware
of all that is going on around us in public places.

I'm not saying be paranoid, but just be aware,
and be sure to notify authorities immediately if you see anything suspicious.

With Love and Prayers,
Becky

Creating Christmas!!

Hi Friends!!

Happy Thursday!

You know, I think my most favorite things to create are Christmas pretties!
Maybe because of how much I love God, and love all that happens at this time of the year.
Don't you?

Here are a couple of new items in my shop
for Christmas!

Some vintage inspired skeleton key ornaments
or gift tie ons!

Distressed and embellished, they also
can be tied on jars, knobs, used as
stocking stuffers, and teacher and hostess
gifts.

Just a reminder that I am not taking custom
orders until next year, so if you see something you love in my shop, scoop it up.

I will only be selling what is in stock, which means there are limited quantities of everything.

Hope you are going to simplify your
holiday planning, too, and focus on
those treasured people in your life
and home!  It really is all about relationships, you know?

Have a joyful rest of the week!!
Hugs,
Becky

Bye Bye Summer

Wow, Labor Day has come and gone!!

And that means summer has unofficially come to an end.

Whaaat?

Thank goodness central Florida has kind of the endless summer thing going on!  This gal thrives on sunshine and warm temps!!

So...even though Florida doesn't experience much "Fall"  I create Fall things for my shop, and love to warm up the inside of my house with the lovely colors of Autumn.
{totally haven't done any of the latter yet}

Here is a great neutral set of pumpkins that will literally go with anything!

I distressed the drop cloth and added a wash
of neutral paint to the wonderful real pumpkins stems for a softer look.

As much as I love velvet pumpkins,
there is just something about the neutral
simplicity of these that makes me happy!

Here is a rustic tweed cutie!

I am off to get some rest because
someone has to make the pumpkins!!

These will be in my shop tomorrow night!

Have a wonderful week and remember

A Little Boho

You know, I am a creator at heart.

I am in my very happy place when I can sit
down at my workbench, surrounded by design
elements I love, and can just play with them until I have created something I love!

The only thing that can make it even better is
when you love them, too!!

Here are my "little bit Boho" style pumpkins.

They have a fun, Boho meets coastal meets a little shabby look, right?
You know how much I love mixing things up!

They can transition right into Winter with their pretty neutral palette

When I added the flower, I thought...
hmmm...a rhinestone center?
And then it was complete!

Each design takes time... trying this, and
trying that, until the magic happens
and it all comes together-a process
I absolutely thrive on!!

Have a lovely day, friends!
Thanks so much for stopping by!!

And Happy September, too!!
Hugs and Joy to You!

Velvety Sea Mist Blues!

Happy Saturday!!

Feeling glad today that the tropical storm isn't headed to us, but am praying for those in the direct path of the storms headed toward west Florida and Hawaii. Please prepare and be safe!

~~~~~~~~~~
You all know how much I love the beach!!
That is why when I first started making pumpkins, I had to make several in a coastal, beach cottage theme.
I am so thrilled to have finally found some more velvety fabric in this wonderful velvety sea mist blue color!
They are so soft and a little luxurious!
I hand weathered the real dried pumpkin
stems for a driftwood kind of look.
These pumpkins make great hostess gifts
and are a lovely touch to any coastal cottage or beachy room in your home!
Lots more pumpkins to come!
They will include some wonderful linen
look neutrals, some with a touch of a
Boho theme, and more cozy sweater pumpkins
like this one!
Hope the rest of your weekend is fabulous!
The Sea Mist Velvets are in the shop!
Hugs and Joy to You!!
Rustic Chicken and Veggies~Oh My!
Hey Hey!
Thank you so much for showing me some pumpkin love!!
Y'all rock!
I prepared this amazing dish last night for family night, and it was devoured!!!  Just had to share it with my friends!!  You will definitely want to make it!
photo via Pinterest
This is from Nigella.  I omitted the chorizo and orange zest, but followed the basic recipe.
I am not a fan of chorizo so I substituted 1 lb of smoked sausage cut in 1" chunks.
I also decided to throw in 5-6 parsnips and 5-6 carrots quartered and cut in 2" lengths.  Good call for sure!!  They added a lovely sweetness to the dish.
I also halved several cloves of garlic and scattered them around.
I sprinkled the chicken and veggies with salt and pepper which I think it needed.
Here is Nigella's recipe:
  • tablespoons olive oil
  • 12 chicken thighs with skin and bone still on
  • 750 grams chorizo (whole if baby ones or cut into 4cm / 1½ inch chunks if regular sized)
  • kilogram new potatoes (halved)
  • red onions (peeled and roughly chopped)
  • teaspoons dried oregano
  • grated zest of orange
  1. Preheat the oven to 375.   Put the oil in the bottom of 2 shallow roasting tins, 1 tablespoon in each. Rub the skin of the chicken in the oil, then turn skin-side up, 6 pieces in each tin.
  2. Divide the chorizo sausages and the new potatoes between the 2 tins. Sprinkle the onion and the oregano over, then grate the orange zest over the contents of the 2 tins.
  3. Cook for 1 hour, but after 30 minutes, swap the top tray with the bottom tray in the oven and baste the contents with the orange-coloured juices.
Oh and I used about 3.5 pounds of regular red
potatoes. I used a roasting pan, and a
13 x 9 pan because I didn't know how much
liquid it would make.
So easy to prepare, and soooo delicious!
My whole family was oohing and aahing!!
This is a new family fave!
If you make it, please let me know
what you think!!
Off to make pumpkins!!
Hope your day is delightful!!
Becky
